Sellinam 2.0 now available in the AppStore

Filed under Sellinam iOS version, Uncategorized

You can download version 2 into your iPhone now. If you have iOS 4 running on your device, you can SMS others in Tamil.

The keyboard layout follows our Anjal input method — with exactly the same key-mapping as the desktop version.

great app for iphone. exspecially for tamil lovers. is the text in tamil only visible from iphone to iphone only? i tried to sms to other phone models, they only get funny charecters, rather than the tamil text on their phone…can sellinan team explain it to me? is there tamil keyboard in iphone? when it will be available?

Thank you, Raj. You can send Tamil SMS to other phones, but the receiving phone must support Tamil. Some of the low end Nokia phones (like the 6030 and similar models) do support.

    Dear Nageshvaran,

Our focus is on iOS and selected Android devices. However, for Android, we work directly with the device manufacturers because of the issues in Android with regards to Indian languages.

Why you r not developing tamil key pad for blackberry mobiles

  15. admin
    Posted April 23, 2012 at 11:10 am | Permalink

    Dear Kabilamaran,

We are not developing for the Blackberry because we do not get that many requests from people who use that device. Besides, our resources are limited. As such, we focus on the most widely used devices , and those that allow Tamil text to be rendered correctly first.

    Thanks for ur reply.

Blackberry after os6 it supports tamil font better then android and also blackberry playbook now supports android applications.
So, pls do something to port tamil key pad atleast for blackberry playbook. I think it is easy as blackberry playbook can support android applications.

Thanks a lot for providing such useful tools for Tamil people. I request you to do one thing. Currently we are facing a issue that we need to open the Sellinam software to type in Tamil, instead of this method, change the way to utilize your keypad under “International Keyboard” option. By default iPhone is providing around 40 inbuilt international keyboards. In this way we can simply switch over to Tamil, English and other language.

Dear Sulthan: Unfortunately, there is no provision for a developer to build a system-wide input-method for iOS. Otherwise, we would have done it a long time go. However, if enough users like us send emails or give feedback to Apple, I am sure they will know that there are users out there who need Tamil input.. Please email them or give them feedback at Thank you.

Dear Vijay: As with iOS, there is no provision for us to build a system-wide input method for BlackBerry OS. We are hoping to see Tamil keyboard supported in their next version 10.

Dear Alexander: As far as we know, the HTC Explorer sold in India has Tamil (Sellinam) built in. However, we also hear there are other Android devices that support Tamil text rendering, though they may not have a built-in keyboard. You may want to search around. We will also let you know as and when more devices are released.

Hi, saw your app in app store .. It seems you have used custom font in your app (in fourth screen shot (இன்னொரு தடவை) and for வணக்கம் in second screen shot) .. Am trying to use custom font in my app .. Its getting imported properly and even shows in font families when NSLogged .. but its not changing the font on simulator or device, it defaults to “Tamil Sangam MN” … any help is appreciated :)

It’ll be rather hard to advice without looking at the code. Besides, our developers are quite tight-up with their own projects. Perhaps you may want to ask in the Apple developer forums?

Most of my documents are in Tamil Font Latha, Elango and Pattinathar. I have stored all these word documents in my tablet Micromax funbook P 350. But I could not read the tamil text. Have you got any remedy for this. I have downloaded sellinum font to my above android tablet, but I could’t read. I would be much thankful if you could guide me in this regard. Further I want to know whether you have developed sellinum or similar fonts for using in desktop computers. Thank you.

    Posted January 21, 2013 at 3:18 pm | Permalink

Dear A.M.Siddique, Sellinam is not a font solution. It is an input-method. In simple terms, a keyboard. It will only work if you already have a resident font on your device. It will not be possible for apps to add system-wide fonts into Android.

You may want to check with the device vendor for a software update to Android 4.1.

It would be of great help if you develop your app for BlackBerry. I just love your app… I just bought BlackBerry Z10. As soon as I bought this product I searched for your app in the play store just disappointed that I can’t find your application. As the new BlackBerry platform supports apk formats am just putting forward my request to develop for BlackBerry.
